Book Rating:

Miles Anderson has a twin sister Eloise. Their mother died when they were born, and they were raised by their grandmother - Gran. Eloise is married to Doug, who is best friends with Miles. Miles is the principal of the high school in the small town of Ember Falls. He tries to be the cool Principal going along with the kids / teachers most of the time. He plays ultimate frisbee with some of his other friends.  Doug was to coach the ice hockey team over the summer, but, he broke his leg when he and Miles were playing ice hockey.  Miles is now the coach for the summer ice hockey team, which he hates because he wanted to go to his summer retreat to the cabin in Michigan, now he has to put that off for another year. But, secretly he does love coaching the young kids and high schoolers. Miles wasn't in the NHL, but, played in the minor hockey league team.

Penelope (Penny) has a 6 yr old son, Kai. They have been running / on the move the past 6 yrs. Penny's brother is a former soldier, and he and his old teammates created a company to help people disappear/hide from different things. He has set Penny up in numerous locations, her latest one being in Ember Falls. Penny works at the local Coffee Shop, she likes it and it keeps her busy, but, it's not where her heart lies, she wants to do interior design work. But, knows she needs to keep to small jobs where she won't be noticed and where she could make a clean break.

Penny & Miles hit things off. Miles wants to date her, but, Penny keeps refusing. Miles tries and tries, but, no dice. Finally Penny does give in and hopes that she can be with him, as she loves being around him and his friends. Miles is head over heals for Penny & her son Kai.

But will Penny be able to stay or will she run away?
