ARC Book Review - Perfect Deke, (The Blade Kings #1), by Ruth Stilling
Book Rating:

Kendra Hart plays for the professional women's soccer team in NYC. She loves to play soccer for them. Her brother is playing for a team in Europe and can't believe the salary difference. Her $60,000 is like something he would earn in a day. Her father also played when he was younger, and is now retired. She doesn't want to get money from them, she wants to make her own way on and off the field. Kendra's apartment ceiling comes crashing down one night. She lives with her friend for a few days, but, the couch cushinons are horrible. She runs into Jack one day at a local bakery. They never really talked much in college, as her then boyfriend was Jack's rival, and they couldn't stand each other.
Jack Morgan, is playing for a NY NHL Hockey team. Last season he played for the league just below NHL, AHL for the same team, hoping to be brought up during the season. His step-dad Jon is the coach of the hockey team and now his coach. They have a great coach / player connection and a great family connection also.
Turns out Jack has had a crush on Kendra since their college days but never acted on it because she was dating his rival. Everything changes when Kendra breaks up with her boyfriend. Once Jack and Kendra meet at a bakery, he finds out that she needs a place to stay. Jack offers her his extra room at his apartment, knowing it’s finally his chance to pursue his dream girl. He doesn't want to let her go now that she's so close to him, and finally away from that awful boyfriend.
