Ethan Reid is was a navy Seal, he is a Billionaire via his tech company and he's also a dad. HIs sister is Sarah who is best friends with Tess. They all grew up together, and during high school Ethan and Tess played spin the bottle and kissed in a closet. Ethan has always thought of her for the past years he's been away from their small town often wondering how she is doing.
Tess she lives in the small town she grew up in. Lives in an apartment. But, now next door is Ethan and his daughter living in a house. She's always had a crush on Ethan, but, her being best friends with his sister, she never knew if things could work out between them.
Now that Ethan is back living in their small town, the press have also followed him. They have linked him with another famous person saying they are 'dating' even though they aren't. Ethan was just working with her as a client. Ethan talks with Tess about having a 'fake' relationship with him to get the press off his back. But, that only throws Tess into the lime light.
I don't know if the author mixed the characters up, but, in the book, Ethan and his daughter meet Tess's parents who ask how long they've known each other. Ethan responded with not long, we live next to each other. But, they've known each other since he is Sarah's brother who is Tess's best friend? So, they've known each other awhile? In the book Ethan is saying how he doesn't know if he wants to be a dad. He's already a dad to a little girl.
