ARC Book Review - Small Town Smoke Show (The Calloway Ranch #2), by Holly Renee

Book Trope: Small town romance, slow burn

Hunter Calloway works his family's ranch, the Calloway Ranch. He is Colt's brother who we met in Book #1, Cowboy Casual. We don’t get any back story on Hunter. We know he lives on his family’s ranch and works it with his brothers. He does live with one brother McCoy, and he is fixing up a house he brought but it’s been a side project for 2 yrs now. 

Maggie Dawson works in the bakery - Darlin' Delights in the small town. Her sister Ella was dating Hunter. But, her high school boyfriend Dean, came back into her life, and Ella left Hunter to go back with Dean, and they moved back to Alabama to the small down they were from. Ella and Dean have just gotten engaged, and Ella is guilting Maggie to move back home so they could be close and work the wedding planning together. Maggie stayed in the small town in Tennessee, as she said this small town felt more like home more than her parents place ever had. 

Maggie and Hunter have been friends since she moved into the small town. Ever since her sister left Hunter Maggie has wondered if he sees her as anything other than his ex’s little sister? Hunter wonders the same thing, would Maggie like him if he wasn’t her sister’s ex?? These too dance around each other most of the book. I wish there wasn’t as much ‘wondering’ between them.

  Book Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lila Ferrante, grew up with everyone thinking she had the mind of a 5 year old. Her mother told everyone she was simple minded. ARC Book Review - Heart of Frost and Scars, (Frozen Fate #3), by Pam Godwin

  Book Rating:  This is the 3rd book in the series, the conclusion of the series. You do need to read the other 2 books prior, as this continues where book 2 left off. We have Leonid, Kody, Frankie and Monty. Monty has opened his home / island to Leonid, Kody & Frankie to live in and recover. The three take the guest house next to the main house Monty is in.  Frankie starts getting text messages and phone calls from a blocked / restricted number. No one is sure who is sending them. Other than she is being watched and the person at the other end knows what everyone in the house is doing. Frankie now has a stalker.  Leonid and Kody seem to be adapting well to living in Sitka and the area. They are going out in public, and doing normal things.  The 2 now have cell phones thanks to Monte, and have been learning about the new technology. Leonid & Kody are fiercely protective of Frankie.
